SUMMARY:How to engage with faith-based organizations to develop community housing
DESCRIPTION:Faith communities across Canada are sitting on land and buildings with the potential to become much-needed affordable housing\, while community housing providers are looking for new opportunities to grow. Simultaneously\, faith-based organizations are having to reimagine how they steward their properties. In alignment with their values\, many are recognizing the potential for those properties to become much-needed community housing. \n⇒ Register \nTurning that potential into housing starts with identifying the right collaborations. This webinar with Renewable Cities will give you practical tools\, real-world examples\, and a clearer path for moving from an initial conversation to a strong collaboration and\, ultimately\, a viable housing project. We’ll explore questions such as: How can faith-based organizations and community housing providers work together to unlock these opportunities? What does it take to build strong partnerships before a housing project even begins? \nTo explore these questions\, join us for a conversation with Leanne Sawatzky\, Director of Renewable Cities. This organization is working alongside faith communities and community housing developers to transform underused land into affordable housing. Moderated by Dawn Campbell\, Development Manager at the Centre\, this session will give insights about: \n\nKey principles to guide collaborative relationships with faith-based organisations;\nThe importance of building trust with potential collaborators for project planning;\nWhich tools are available to explore organizational readiness to pursue housing development;\nA concrete example of how the collaboration of a church with a non-profit housing developer led to the creation of new affordable housing units.\n\nWhether you represent a housing provider\, a faith-based organization\, a municipality\, or a community partner\, this webinar will provide practical guidance on how to move from conversation to collaboration\, and from underused land to affordable homes. \nNote: This webinar will be offered in English and French thanks to simultaneous interpretation.
