SUMMARY:Consolidating to secure the future of organizations and the housing stock: Strategies from Eastern Quebec
DESCRIPTION:In a context of limited financial resources\, a need to preserve the housing stock\, and a lack of leadership succession in rural areas\, consolidation is becoming a key strategy for protecting and developing community housing. \nJoin us for this one-hour webinar featuring David Barbaza\, Executive Director of Fédération des OSBL d’habitation du Bas-Saint-Laurent\, de la Gaspésie et des Îles-de-la-Madeleine (FOHBGI) and President and Co-founder of Logéco\, who will share practical insights from a community housing organization consolidation initiative in Eastern Quebec. The session will be moderated by Jonathan Fleury\, Program manager Québec. \nIn Eastern Quebec\, several small non-profit housing organizations manage a sometimes-aging housing stock with limited resources\, making it increasingly difficult to maintain services and keep buildings in good conditions. It is in this context that a structural transformation has been implemented\, led by the FOHBGI. This initiative resulted in the creation of Logéco as a central mechanism to pool property management\, standardize practices\, and strengthen professional support to members. It has also fostered a new culture of collaboration and solidarity across the region. \nAs a part of the Centre knowledge sharing series\, this webinar will explore what made consolidation both relevant and feasible\, how it was implemented\, and what concrete changes it brings to the stability and growth of the regional community housing stock. The discussion will cover: \n\nWhy and when to consolidate: recognizing signs of vulnerability; addressing the issue of succession; protecting the housing stock; maintaining services in rural and remote communities.\nThe unique features of the Logéco model: shared management; professionalization of practices; a flexible and participatory governance framework; support for organizations of all sizes; the role of a regional “safety net”.\n Tools and conditions for success: transformation plan; clarification of roles; the ecosystem of actors involved and the quality of the relationships developed; how to align management and boards of directors toward a common goal; how to ensure the new structure’s long-term sustainability.\n Expected outcomes and transferability: what the initiative aims to stabilize and develop; how to create a model that can be useful for other regions in Canada.\n\nWhether you are a leader\, board member\, or manager of a community housing organization\, this webinar is designed to provide insights and offer guidance on assessing the potential for consolidation to join forces in a strategy for resilience and growth. \nNote: This webinar will be offered in English and French thanks to simultaneous interpretation.

SUMMARY:From vision to action: The strategic journey of Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society
DESCRIPTION:How can we address the growing demand for affordable community housing in the current economic context? Most community housing business models are struggling to generate results at the scale needed to meaningfully address the crisis. \nThis is Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society (ENFHS) realization. The complexity of the housing crisis\, rising costs\, and growing demand\, combined with expiring operating agreements\, made it clear that a purely operational focus would not be enough to meet community needs or ensure organizational sustainability. \nTo remain impactful and financially sustainable\, ENFHS needed to evolve into a growth-oriented organization with strong development\, financing\, leadership\, and partnerships. \nJoin us for a Centre’s Knowledge Sharing Series webinar featuring Lilian Chau\, CEO of Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society. She will share practical insights into how her organization implemented its new strategic plan to grow with purpose and double its impact by 2028\, while considering the need to pivot and be responsive to changing funding landscapes. \nModerated by Severn Nelson\, Program Manager at the Centre\, the session will explore how ENFHS has undertaken a major strategic shift by adopting an approach focused on partnership capacity and business mindset in service of a charitable purpose. It will also highlight the critical role of resolute strategic thinking\, organizational self-exploration grounded in theory of change\, and internal capacities (including governance\, financial expertise\, and leadership) as essential foundations for organizational growth. \nThis webinar will provide practical guidance on how to: \n\nShift from an operational focus to a mission-led entrepreneurial focus that can sustain itself and grow despite funding environment shifts;\nBecome a housing provider capable of delivering large-scale\, mixed-income communities while maintaining deep affordability and equity\n\nThis webinar is particularly aimed at senior management\, board members\, portfolio managers and sector leaders seeking to strengthen their organizational capacities and to grow with purpose. \nNote: This webinar will be offered in English and French thanks to simultaneous interpretation.
