SUMMARY:Get going: Growing the Canadian non-profit housing sector
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to grow a strong and sustainable community housing sector? What can Canada learn from countries where non-profit housing plays a significant role in the housing system? \n⇒ Register \nJoin economists and researchers Duncan Maclennan and Steve Pomeroy to explore the findings of a new international comparative study commissioned by the Centre. Drawing on research and interviews with 65 policy and sector leaders across the Netherlands\, Denmark\, England\, Scotland\, Ireland\, and Australia\, the study examines what has enabled non-profit housing to grow\, what could stand in the way of that growth\, and what could be adapted to the Canadian context. \nMost importantly\, it identifies concrete actions and solutions that could support the growth of community housing in Canada. \nModerated by Lisa Ker\, Executive Director of the Centre\, the discussion will explore the conditions needed for sustained sector growth nationwide. The solution goes beyond the number of housing units funded each year. A robust housing system must consider who will own these units\, who will ensure they remain affordable\, and which organizations will be able to create more of them twenty years from now. A key consideration is how Canada can move beyond funding individual projects toward building an enduring community housing system capable of growing over the long term. \nParticipants will gain insights into: \n\nWhat has enabled the non-profit housing sector to grow in 6 other countries;\nWhere Canada stands today\, and which international lessons could help strengthen the sector;\nThe conditions needed to create a pipeline for sustained growth rather than a series of individual projects;\nA list of concrete actions to be implemented for the future of the community housing sector in Canada.\n\nWhether you are a sector leader\, government official\, researcher\, or housing provider\, this webinar will provide an international perspective on how Canada can build a more effective and efficient community housing with the capacity for sustained growth. \nNote: This webinar will be offered in both English and French through simultaneous interpretation.

SUMMARY:How to engage with faith-based organizations to develop community housing
DESCRIPTION:Faith communities across Canada are sitting on land and buildings with the potential to become much-needed affordable housing\, while community housing providers are looking for new opportunities to grow. Simultaneously\, faith-based organizations are having to reimagine how they steward their properties. In alignment with their values\, many are recognizing the potential for those properties to become much-needed community housing. \n⇒ Register \nTurning that potential into housing starts with identifying the right collaborations. This webinar with Renewable Cities will give you practical tools\, real-world examples\, and a clearer path for moving from an initial conversation to a strong collaboration and\, ultimately\, a viable housing project. We’ll explore questions such as: How can faith-based organizations and community housing providers work together to unlock these opportunities? What does it take to build strong partnerships before a housing project even begins? \nTo explore these questions\, join us for a conversation with Leanne Sawatzky\, Director of Renewable Cities. This organization is working alongside faith communities and community housing developers to transform underused land into affordable housing. Moderated by Dawn Campbell\, Development Manager at the Centre\, this session will give insights about: \n\nKey principles to guide collaborative relationships with faith-based organisations;\nThe importance of building trust with potential collaborators for project planning;\nWhich tools are available to explore organizational readiness to pursue housing development;\nA concrete example of how the collaboration of a church with a non-profit housing developer led to the creation of new affordable housing units.\n\nWhether you represent a housing provider\, a faith-based organization\, a municipality\, or a community partner\, this webinar will provide practical guidance on how to move from conversation to collaboration\, and from underused land to affordable homes. \nNote: This webinar will be offered in English and French thanks to simultaneous interpretation.
