SUMMARY:Building Partnerships Conference
DESCRIPTION:Manitoba Non-Profit Housing Association’s 14th annual Building Partnerships Conference is being held in Winnipeg from November 12-13\, 2026. Two days full of panels\, presentations\, networking and discussions from all sides of the non-profit housing sector. Presenters and panelists from across Canada will share hard-earned insights and expertise. \nThe Centre will present 2 sessions at this year’s conference: \n\nThursday\, November 12: 3:15pm – 4:30pm  RentSmart at Centennial 2\nFriday\, November 13: 9:15am – 10:30am Consolidation in the Sector at Embassy A\n\nBuilding Housing Stability: The RentSmart approach to homelessness prevention in Manitoba: Thursday\, November 12: 3:15pm – 4:30pm \nSpeakers: Teresa Guillem (The Centre) and Pam Sholdice (MNPHA\, RentSmart): \nThis session explores how RentSmart\, a train-the-trainer education model facilitated by Certified Educators\, equips communities with practical tools to support successful tenancies and reduce the risk of eviction.\nHighlights include:\n– Tools and approaches for teaching financial literacy\, communication\, conflict resolution\, and tenancy responsibilities;\n– Strategies for building community capacity through a scalable train-the-trainer model;\n– Adaptable practices and resources that can be integrated into local housing stability and eviction prevention efforts. \nFind out more about the RentSmart course offering here: https://centre.support/service/course-offering/ \nConsolidation in the Sector: Learning from Our Neighbours in Quebec:Friday\, November 13: 9:15am – 10:30am \nSpeaker: Catherine Desrochers (Director of Communications and Strategic Relations at the FOHBGI and Logéco) Facilitator:  Justin Quigley (Program Manager at the Community Housing Transformation Centre): \nIn Eastern Quebec\, several small non-profit housing organizations manage a sometimes-aging housing stock with limited resources\, making it increasingly difficult to maintain services and keep buildings in good condition. It is in this context that a structural transformation has been implemented\, led by the FOHBGI. This initiative resulted in the creation of Logéco as a central mechanism and regional safety net designed to intervene when consolidation becomes necessary\, safeguarding community housing\, preserving collective assets\, and ensuring the long-term continuity of operations for both organizations and tenants\, while pooling property management\, standardizing practices\, and strengthening professional support. It has also fostered a new culture of collaboration and solidarity across the region. \nThe discussion will explore Logéco’s journey and the key features of its model\, addressing why and when to consolidate\, the tools available to support consolidation\, and the conditions for success. \nCentre’s attendance: Teresa Guillem\, Stefanie Einfeld\, (guest: Catherine Desrochers)

SUMMARY:Get going: Growing the Canadian non-profit housing sector
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to grow a strong and sustainable community housing sector? What can Canada learn from countries where non-profit housing plays a significant role in the housing system? \n⇒ Register \nJoin economists and researchers Duncan Maclennan and Steve Pomeroy to explore the findings of a new international comparative study commissioned by the Centre. Drawing on research and interviews with 65 policy and sector leaders across the Netherlands\, Denmark\, England\, Scotland\, Ireland\, and Australia\, the study examines what has enabled non-profit housing to grow\, what could stand in the way of that growth\, and what could be adapted to the Canadian context. \nMost importantly\, it identifies concrete actions and solutions that could support the growth of community housing in Canada. \nModerated by Lisa Ker\, Executive Director of the Centre\, the discussion will explore the conditions needed for sustained sector growth nationwide. The solution goes beyond the number of housing units funded each year. A robust housing system must consider who will own these units\, who will ensure they remain affordable\, and which organizations will be able to create more of them twenty years from now. A key consideration is how Canada can move beyond funding individual projects toward building an enduring community housing system capable of growing over the long term. \nParticipants will gain insights into: \n\nWhat has enabled the non-profit housing sector to grow in 6 other countries;\nWhere Canada stands today\, and which international lessons could help strengthen the sector;\nThe conditions needed to create a pipeline for sustained growth rather than a series of individual projects;\nA list of concrete actions to be implemented for the future of the community housing sector in Canada.\n\nWhether you are a sector leader\, government official\, researcher\, or housing provider\, this webinar will provide an international perspective on how Canada can build a more effective and efficient community housing with the capacity for sustained growth. \nNote: This webinar will be offered in both English and French through simultaneous interpretation.

SUMMARY:How to engage with faith-based organizations to develop community housing
DESCRIPTION:Faith communities across Canada are sitting on land and buildings with the potential to become much-needed affordable housing\, while community housing providers are looking for new opportunities to grow. Simultaneously\, faith-based organizations are having to reimagine how they steward their properties. In alignment with their values\, many are recognizing the potential for those properties to become much-needed community housing. \n⇒ Register \nTurning that potential into housing starts with identifying the right collaborations. This webinar with Renewable Cities will give you practical tools\, real-world examples\, and a clearer path for moving from an initial conversation to a strong collaboration and\, ultimately\, a viable housing project. We’ll explore questions such as: How can faith-based organizations and community housing providers work together to unlock these opportunities? What does it take to build strong partnerships before a housing project even begins? \nTo explore these questions\, join us for a conversation with Leanne Sawatzky\, Director\, and Amal Abdullah\, Project coordinator\, of Renewable Cities. This organization is working alongside faith communities and community housing developers to transform underused land into affordable housing. Julie Lebrun\, a retired Reverend\, will join the conversation to speak about The Springs\, a below-market housing project built on church land through a partnership between the church\, a non-profit housing developer and a children and family services society. Moderated by Dawn Campbell\, Development Manager at the Centre\, this session will give insights about: \n\nKey principles to guide collaborative relationships with faith-based organisations;\nThe importance of building trust with potential collaborators for project planning;\nWhich tools are available to explore organizational readiness to pursue housing development;\nA concrete example of how the collaboration of a church with a non-profit housing developer led to the creation of new affordable housing units.\n\nWhether you represent a housing provider\, a faith-based organization\, a municipality\, or a community partner\, this webinar will provide practical guidance on how to move from conversation to collaboration\, and from underused land to affordable homes. \nNote: This webinar will be offered in English and French thanks to simultaneous interpretation.
