Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada

The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada

The Centre’s commitment to Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples is enshrined among our key priorities, and it is reflected in our support of initiatives that address the housing needs of Indigenous communities. With that in mind, we are providing free access to an online Indigenous cultural awareness course.

What is it?

The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada is a series of five online modules for a total of 4 to 5 hours of learning, to be completed at your own pace.

Topics include:

  • Cultural and historical differences between First Nations, Inuit, and Métis
  • Evolution of the relationship between Canada and Indigenous people from pre-contact to yesterday’s headlines
  • Stories of social and economic success, Reconciliation and resilience
  • Understanding intercultural communication in the workplace

With videos, quizzes, music and animation, The Path is lively and engaging.

Designed by Indigenous People

The Path is a dynamic and engaging cultural awareness training that includes videos, quiz questions, music and animation. It is the result of a collaboration between First Nations and Métis people and brought forth by an Indigenous organization whose mission is to promote Indigenous power and autonomy. A favourite, informative tool, more than 100 groups of all types (federal and municipal government organizations, professional associations, private companies, etc.) have offered it to thousands of employees across Canada.

Is it free?

Yes, the course is sponsored by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and offered free of charge to eligible groups.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible if you’re a community housing provider, housing co-operative or a community-led organization that works with tenants. Priority will be given to small-to-medium organizations, but larger organizations are encouraged to communicate their interest, and we will evaluate need and capacity in relation to available space.

How do I apply?

Send us an email at

There is limited availability, so please specify how many employees or volunteers will take the course.

Indigenous Peoples and cultures: The Path, an essential training

The Community Housing Transformation Centre’s staff began 2022 with a renewed zeal to act on our organization’s commitment to Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. In our January newsletter, we invited other community housing providers, housing co-operatives or community-led organizations working with tenants to join us in learning about First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples and communities in Canada through an online Indigenous cultural awareness course.

The path to reconciliation starts with education and awareness

The Centre’s commitment to Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples is something close to our hearts. It is enshrined among our key priorities, and it is reflected in our support of initiatives that address the housing needs of Indigenous communities. In 2022, we plan on doing more. The first step is providing free, exclusive access to an online Indigenous cultural awareness course called The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada. Underwritten by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, it is designed to help learn about First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples and communities in Canada.
