The Community Housing Transformation Centre (the Centre) is looking for a highly motivated individual to work on the development of programs, projects and activities focusing on facilitating the growth and resilience of Black led community housing organizations across Canada. The task

Using a community-driven approach, increase the organizational capacity of existing and emerging housing providers and supports primarily governed, staffed, and managed by members of Black communities.

The goal

Significantly contribute to creating a sizable and diverse range of quality and affordable housing stock in Black communities where the demand exists.

What is the Centre?

We support the sustainability, development, and accessibility of quality community housing across Canada. We provide financial assistance to community housing stakeholders and promote resource and knowledge sharing through partnerships.

Responsibilities

Program Development and Project management

  • Define, lead, and implement programmatic activities dedicated to increase the Centre’s impact in supporting the growth and resilience of Black-led housing providers

Outreach and Communication

  • Establish a registry of Black-led, Black-governed, and Black- serving housing providers, support organizations and other services.
  • Contact and inform these groups and organizations, as well as community and institutional allies, of the Centre’s services, projects, and activities to increase uptake among those communities.
  • Establish regular communication between the Centre and Black-led or Black serving organizations that would benefit from the Centre’s services, working with existing Black community networks.
  • Create and maintain content for dedicated pages of the Centre’s website that will:
    • Provide background and updates on the Centre’s activities related to Black community housing.
    • Offer interactive tools inviting interested parties to register and engage with the Centre’s activities, projects, and funding programs.
    • Provide a system mapping exercise that includes the different key stakeholders and available resources relating to the advancement of affordable housing outcomes for Black communities across Canada.
    • Promote the Centre’s activities in the community housing sector’s key forums to sensitize the sector and identify allies to the needs and potential partnerships with Black led organizations.
    • Planning and reporting

Report to the Executive Director

  • Draft planning and implementations road maps to achieve deliverables
  • Draft reports for the board and funders

Knowledge and experience

  • Education in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Law, Political Science or similar relevant experience through work and/or volunteering.
  • Experience in community organizing and community development.
  • Knowledge of Black community organizations, community housing sector and/or associations or support agencies/ services working with community housing sector.
