Nova Scotia Black Community Housing Fund (NS-BCHF) provides grants and develops tools and expertise. It is designed for Black-led, Black-focused, and Black-serving (B3) organizations that serve the needs of Black communities. It aims to increase the availability of community housing in the province.
This fund was established and funded by the government of Nova Scotia in collaboration with the Centre.
Available funding streams
Capacity building
Support for projects aiming to develop the skills and abilities of community housing organizations. This stream promotes organizational growth and transformation.
Planning and pre-development
Support to cover the costs of pre-development project activities related to housing construction. It funds activities such as business plans, preliminary studies, building permits, risk analyses, and professional services.
Research and innovation
Support for initiatives that promote innovation, education, and knowledge transfer within the community housing sector.
Eligibility criteria
Eligible organizations must be Black-led and Black-focused with their activities serving the needs of Black communities in Nova Scotia. They must also be a:
- Non-profit housing organization
- Housing cooperative
- Non-profit organization involved in the construction or management of affordable or community housing
