Nova Scotia Community Housing Capital Fund
The Nova Scotia Community Housing Capital Fund (NS-CHCF) provides community housing organizations in Nova Scotia with access to capital grants for the acquisition of existing residential buildings.
This fund was created by the Government of Nova Scotia in collaboration with the Community Housing Transformation Centre to support the growth of the non-profit and co-operative housing stock. In addition, it aims to preserve existing affordable rents and prevent the displacement of tenants living in them.
The NS-CHCF will also help eligible organizations in obtaining financing through the Community Housing Acquisition Program (CHAP) and other financial institutions.
Funding
The NS-CHCF will provide a one-time capital grant to assist community housing providers to purchase existing multiplex residential buildings (five units and above) listed for sale.

How much funding is available?
Why does the Community Housing Transformation Centre manage the program?
The Centre is a national not-for-profit organization specializing in providing support and funding to the community housing sector across Canada. It has extensive expertise backed by tailor-made IT and administrative tools that enable efficient and secure grant allocation and management. Since its opening, the Centre has consistently proven its ability to assess and allocate funds within a very short timeframe to increase the capacity of co-operative and non-profit housing organizations to deliver their services to the populations they serve.
Who will review the proposals?
Each application will undergo a thorough review by a program manager at the Centre. All applicants are required to undergo an applicant qualification stage to be considered for funding towards a capital contribution for property acquisition. Funding decisions are not made at this stage. Prequalified applicants will then be eligible to apply for funding to assist in acquiring eligible properties. The Centre’s program manager will collaborate with the NS Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing to evaluate submitted properties for funding, ensuring they meet eligibility and viability criteria.
