The Housing Catalyst Fund supports practical and collaborative projects which lead to larger change in the sector. The Centre and the City of St.John’s are joining efforts to work with community groups and other stakeholders (housing providers, service providers, non- profit organizations, builders/developers) to facilitate and plan housing solutions that will enhance the quality for life for individuals and families and build healthier communities.
Realizing the right to housing of racialized tenants in Montreal is key for building better cities. ACORN’s outreach model, using door-to-door and promoting tenant involvement through working groups, is unique and has proven its effectiveness through the identification of fundamental issues that tenants face on a regular basis. Collective work enables solutions to be put in place and guarantees a deep commitment from the latter. This model is particularly fruitful for highlighting the issues affecting the most vulnerable tenants and for developing their leadership in establishing solutions.
The project aims to develop a platform for housing cooperative members that connects needs to resources, facilitates strong and supportive relationships, and provides a vessel for digitizing and sharing knowledge both within individual housing cooperatives and across the sector. This tool is designed to keep the movement in tune with modern means of communication and adapt to evolving social interaction practices.
Stella’s Circle is a leader in the homelessness and housing sector in Newfoundland and Labrador. As part of its strategic planning process, Stella’s identified major housing gaps in the community and decided to increase its housing units from 79 to 100. The planning process helped identify specific populations in desperate need for housing options.
