Regional Energy Coaches: a lever for reducing costs and improving sustainability

Regional Energy Coaches (REC) support community housing providers in improving the sustainability of their buildings and reducing energy costs. The RECs are present in every region of the country, offering their expertise free of charge to support the adoption of eco-responsible practices.

The RECs share their knowledge to empower the sector and provide practical help on technical issues. They carry out comprehensive energy assessments of buildings. This enables them to identify potential improvements and savings.

“Our main objective is to help organizations examine their aging building systems and find energy efficiency solutions that make the most financial and operational sense,” explains Irfaan Hasham. “By working closely with housing providers, we not only improve energy efficiency, but also help them plan for the future of their buildings.”

The RECs work with organizations to prioritize renovations and plan long-term investments. This involves guiding them in the selection and integration of appropriate energy-saving measures.

They also help to identify available financing and develop business cases for projects.

RECs also assist affordable housing providers in accessing funding through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Sustainable Affordable Housing (SAH) initiative.

Whether for renovation, maintenance or construction work, the RECs ensure that energy solutions are both financially feasible and efficient.
