Citizens of Little Burgundy want to highlight the history of the black community

This article from Radio-Canada discusses the efforts of citizens in Montreal’s Little Burgundy neighbourhood to honour the history of the Black community in that historic neighbourhood.

The article also highlights the need for more education about Black history in Canada and the rich cultural heritage of Little Burgundy. Much of the neighbourhood experienced forced displacement in the 1960s by the City and the Province to build the Ville Marie Expressway.

Topics include: the history of Black neighbourhoods in Canada, the importance of preserving Black history, environmental racism, displacement, and the ties between the Black community and the neighbourhood’s music scene.
