The new eviction system for housing co-ops was implemented on June 1, 2014, bringing changes to the Co-operative Corporations Act and the Residential Tenancies Act. Under the new law, most evictions are now handled by the Landlord and Tenant Board after the co-op’s internal process is completed. The educational series “Evictions: What co-ops need to know” is an educational series to help Ontario co-ops understand and work with the new eviction system. This issue provides an overview of the eviction process from both the member’s and the co-op’s perspective. It also encourages the co-op and the member to explore alternative solutions at each stage of the eviction process.
Topics include: eviction, co-op, member, termination, board hearing
