The Witness Blanket is a large-scale project containing hundreds of items reclaimed from residential schools, churches, government buildings, and traditional and cultural structures across Canada. The items and stories carried by the Witness Blanket are accompanied by the voices of Survivors who share their experiences. These stories shed light on the reality of anti-Indigenous racism, colonialism, and genocide and the ongoing harms caused by Canada’s residential school system.
Topics include: the history and impacts of residential schools, the effects on Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, and themes of racism and colonial legacy.
