A new, improved, and digital guide for managing housing co-ops

Modernization of the guide and tools for managing housing co-ops

Parent Organization

Confédération québécoise des coopératives d’habitation (CQCH)

Territory

Québec

Grant

Sector Transformation Fund – Sectoral Impact

Amount

$99,200
Project Summary

In 1998, CQCH created a guide, and a collection of associated tools, for managing housing co-operatives. But in the past quarter-century, there have been many changes in the world of housing co-ops: changes to laws, operating agreements, funding programs, tools and technologies, and in the members and communities co-ops serve.

A major overhaul of the guide was needed. This grant allowed CQCH to completely rework the guide for the current context, and to present it in an interactive online format.

The new guide includes a set of tools (legal documents, model policies and regulations, etc.), as well as short video clips to promote good practices. And because it is now offered online, it will be easier to keep updated in the future.

The new guide is also available free of charge to all 200 housing cooperatives in Quebec and the 7 federations that represent them, not just to CQCH members. Despite differences between provincial funding programs, this guide may also be useful to francophone co-ops and co-operators across Canada.
